This Privacy Policy explains how Finn McDade, a sole trader trading as McDade Construction Intelligence (ABN 98 848 948 499) (“we”, “us”, “our”), collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
01Whose information we handle
- Clients and enquirers: people who contact us or engage our services.
- Business contacts identified in research: people connected with commercial construction projects or businesses in their professional capacity, such as directors, project managers, estimators, procurement staff and consultants.
- Website visitors: limited technical information, described in section 08.
02What we collect
For clients and enquirers: name, company, role, email address, the details of your enquiry, and billing information.
For business contacts identified in research: name, employer or business, role or title, business contact details (such as phone number and email address), business address, and professional information such as the projects a person or business is involved in, ABN and licence details. We do not seek to collect sensitive information, as defined in the Privacy Act, about people identified in our research.
03How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you contact or engage us. For research, we collect information from:
- publicly available sources, including council and state planning portals, government tender sites, the Australian Business Register, ASIC, licensing registers, company websites, project signage and industry publications;
- licensed third-party data providers, used under their terms and only for our own business purposes; and
- direct enquiries with businesses involved in a project.
If we collect your information from someone other than you, we will take reasonable steps to make you aware of this policy where the APPs require it.
04Why we collect and use it
- To respond to enquiries and provide, invoice and manage our services.
- To carry out the specific research engagement a client has commissioned, such as identifying the businesses and people involved in a commercial project so the client can make a business-to-business approach.
- To verify the identity, registration or licensing of a business.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We use personal information only for the purpose it was collected for or a related purpose you would reasonably expect, or as otherwise permitted by law.
05Disclosure
We disclose research findings, which may include business contact details, only to the client who commissioned that research and only as needed for that engagement. Clients must use that information lawfully, including under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth). We may also disclose information to service providers who help us run the business (such as email, cloud storage and accounting providers), to professional advisers, or where required or authorised by law.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not provide consumer people-search or tracing services.
06Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers, such as email, cloud storage and website hosting providers, may store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to make sure those providers handle personal information consistently with the APPs.
07Security and retention
We hold information in password-protected, access-controlled systems, with multi-factor authentication where available. Only the operator of the business has access to research data. We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as required by law, and then securely delete or de-identify it.
08This website
This website does not use advertising cookies, tracking or analytics. The enquiry form does not store or send anything itself: it opens your own email app with your brief filled in. The site keeps one setting in your browser’s session storage so the opening animation plays only once per visit. Fonts and scripts are loaded from Google Fonts, cdnjs and unpkg, and the site is hosted on Cloudflare; these providers receive standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type.
09Access, correction and opting out
You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to stop using your details in our research, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why in writing.
10Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
